Job Description:

The Film Department seeks a full-time faculty member with demonstrated teaching effectiveness in Documentary Filmmaking, Video Production and Editing.  The ability to teach screenwriting and/or cinema studies is a plus.  The new faculty member will join two existing full-time faculty members in a thriving Digital Filmmaking Program.  The program's emphasis is on storytelling.  The ideal candidate will be one who is willing and able to assist students in organizing and structuring their stories as they bring them to the screen.  In addition to teaching a full-time course load, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in curriculum development and assessment,  oversee labs and equipment, assist in the coordination of an annual film festival, assist in placing students in internships, hold regular office hours, and contribute to departmental and campus activities that support the college mission. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the department chair.   


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master's degree in Film, or a related field, and a minimum of one year of relevant teaching experience are required.   

The successful candidate will be able to use PowerPoint, video conversion software, and video editing software, including Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and iMovie. They must also be experienced at using and demonstrating a variety of video, sound and lighting equipment, and be prepared to master the use of all currently-owned film equipment at the College. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate proficiency in structuring, delivering, and assessing digital film education in multiple modalities, with an understanding of the standards required for successful transfer; the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with departmental faculty to teach, plan, and implement a variety of film courses; familiarity with curriculum development and assessment practices; the ability to contribute to departmental and campus affairs;  and demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.  

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Three years of teaching college-level film courses, ideally at the community college level, is strongly preferred.  Professional experience in film or related industries is preferred.

POSITION EFFECTIVE:    Fall 2025

SALARY & BENEFITS:  The starting salary is $75,170. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $88,234. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
