Position Overview
Rider University invites applications for the position of Associate Provost of Strategic Initiatives, Curriculum, and Program Innovation. The Associate Provost of Strategic Initiatives, Curriculum, and Program Innovation (Associate Provost) is a senior leadership role reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. The Associate Provost is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of innovative academic programs. This position works closely with faculty, deans, and other stakeholders to create synergies and strategies for entrepreneurial academic program development, growth, and sustainability. The Associate Provost also will be responsible, in collaboration with the deans and Provost, for continuous examination of the academic portfolio, with a focus on ensuring that the university’s academic offerings are cutting-edge, relevant, and aligned with the skills and knowledge leading to professional and personal success. Additionally, the Associate Provost provides academic leadership across the University, serving as a member of the Provost’s Senior Leadership Team and representing the Provost’s Office with an academic perspective in cross-divisional meetings and University committees. This role is pivotal in elevating the institution’s academic reputation as one that offers programs at the forefront of academic excellence and innovation, preparing students for a rapidly changing world of work.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- An earned doctorate in an academic discipline from an accredited institution.
- 5 to 7 years of demonstrated experience leading an academic program as a chair, assistant/associate dean, dean, or other capacity in academic affairs.
- A demonstrated track record of successful program development and implementation
- A collaborative, entrepreneurial, proactive style, with excellent human relations and leadership skills.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to forge relationships and engage in collaboration.
- Detail-oriented and deadline-driven experience required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A demonstrated commitment to justice, diversity, equity and inclusion
- Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in higher education.
- 10 years of experience leading an academic program as a chair, assistant/associate dean, dean, or other capacity in academic affairs.
- Experience with strategic planning, policy development, curriculum development, program implementation, and disciplinary and regional accrediting bodies.
- Experience in a unionized environment.
- Experience as a member of an accreditation site review team.
- Experience shepherding new programs through state regulatory processes.
