UC San Diego Health is comprised of UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest and Jacobs Medical Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Institute, Moore Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Institute and the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, all in La Jolla, as well as primary care and same-day services at clinics throughout Southern California. UC San Diego Medical Center is home to the area's only Regional Burn Center and one of only two Level 1 trauma centers in the county.
Clinical Social Work involves crisis intervention, psychosocial patient assessments and interventions, mandated reporting, information and referral, non-medical discharge planning, and coordination of health and mental health services with community providers. Clinical Social Workers work in concert with physicians nurses, care managers, and other allied health professionals. Social Workers assist patients and their families with addressing and resolving the social, financial, and psychological problems related to their health conditions and facilitates the patient movement through the health continuum. At the direction of the Social Work Manager, the Social Work Supervisor shares responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Care Management department, including direct supervision of professional or skilled technical employees. The Supervisor's primary responsibility is facilitating patient flow. They demonstrate expertise and the ability to implement timely transitions of care with plans that are safe, effective, and focused on preventing unplanned returns to the ED and/or hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
Keeps staff and patient care teams informed of processes, technology, regulation, and quality standards
Collaborates with management on operational and performance issues and the development of new plans and programs to improve social work services or integration across the spectrum of care coordination services
Evaluates subordinate staff and participates in decision-making on hiring, salary actions, terminations, performance ratings, and other human resources matters
Pursues professional development and facilitates access to ongoing training, staff development, and educational opportunities for subordinate staff
Functions as a resource on clinical social work issues, including interventions, crisis management, and patient advocacy
Ensures adequate orientation, training, and mentoring of new staff
Other duties as assigned
- Master's degree in Social Work
- License Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)issued by the State of California
- A minimum of five (5+) or more years of relevant experience.
- Experience and proven success in ability to effectively manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with care management and social work.
- Experience in an acute care hospital or Emergency Department setting.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $94,400 - $176,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $45.21 - $84.67
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
