Job Summary

The Biomedical Ultrasound Lab led by Dr. Cheri Deng is in search of a Research Investigator to conduct research in the field of biomedical ultrasound technology development and applications, with particular emphasis on the system engineering and experimentation on biomaterial characterization, mechanobiology, biophysics, as well as stem cell differentiation. The bioeffects of ultrasound applications are being exploited to regulate cellular functions and interrogate cellular and tissue status. A wide range of applications are being examined to develop novel technologies for insulin release, exosome engineering, and stem cell differentiation. These diverse arrays of applications require understanding of how ultrasound systems can be designed to achieve controlled effects on biological systems. This post involves performing experiments, data analysis, acoustic engineering, and developing computational models to evaluate and simulate the potential outcomes.

Responsibilities*

The responsibilities of this position include conducting the aforementioned research and performing experiments and simulations. The ideal candidate is expected to collaborate with other members of the research group as well as external collaborators. The position will also be expected to prepare technical reports and academic journal papers related to the research done, as well as participate in the preparation of research grant proposals. The candidate may also participate in instructional activities, including classroom teaching, and the mentoring and supervising undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research activities.

Required Qualifications*

A PhD in Biomechanics/Biomedical Engineering along with 3+ years of post-graduate training in the area of biomedical ultrasound and biophysics is required to fill this position.

Desired Qualifications*

4+ years of experience with biomedical ultrasound technology and applications is preferred with strong publication track record in mechanical characterization of soft biomaterials, mechanobiology, ultrasound interaction with cells and tissues, as well as stem cell differentiation. Strong coding experience with Matlab and COMSOL finite element software development will be preferable.
