SUMMARY

Provides program and project support to Safety Department.

Acts as central point of contact to direct customers to appropriate resources within the Safety Department to ensure resolution of user requests. When requested, provide task support to the Safety Department.

Works under minimal supervision, reporting to the Safety Engineer. Has extensive contact with front line Safety Department Representatives, production employees, production management and support personnel, and production support departments. External contacts are maintained with the US Navy, commercial customers, regulatory bodies, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Prepares, distributes, and analyzes monthly safety statistics, graphs, and reports for internal and external customers.
  • Maintains record keeping of safety data, accident investigations, inspection reports and safety programs.
  • Reviews training and policy documents for clarity and accuracy, and maintains the reference Safety Procedure Manual in Open Text Content Server (Live Link).
  • Prepares Industrial Hygiene Reports.
  • Plans events related to Safety communications and outreach.
  • Sets up long term/high value purchase orders for protective equipment, consultation and laboratory services, safety monitoring equipment, and miscellaneous products and services. Audits invoices for accuracy and processes payment. Tracks expenditures to meet budget projections.
  • Coordinates all activities related to the audit and inspection practice, subcontractor approval process, and safety shoe and prescription safety glass programs.
  • Responds to all inquiries regarding safety and directs them to the appropriate personnel.
  • May act as an interpreter Spanish/English as well as provide written translation of safety related materials.
  • Led or participate in any special projects or other assigned tasks as required.
  • Identify, implement and monitor continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, reduce cycle time, improve quality, and improve safety.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree, or equivalent experience with strong scheduling, task tracking, data analysis, cross-functional team, and customer service background.
  • Four to six (4 - 6) years related work experience with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. The ability to learn and become proficient with additional computer applications to include, PeopleSoft, Open Text Content Server (Live Link), Success Factors, and Online Safety Data Sheet tools.
  • Must be able to obtain access to military bases.
  • Must be a self-motivated, proactive individual, with strong interpersonal skills who can solve problems even in stressful situation.
  • Need good oral and writing skills necessary to meet compressed deadlines. Bilingual reading and speaking in Spanish/English a strong plus.
  • Interest and ability to contribute to continuous improvement in a highly regulated industrial safety setting with a highly structured safety management system (ISO 45001).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands and fingers for typing, etc., answer phones, talk and hear, and some bending and stooping. Must be physically able to walk to all yard locations and climb stairs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Duties may require employee to enter production areas of the shipyard.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Ensures NASSCO's Injury and Illness Prevention Program meets company and regulatory requirements and is effectively implemented. Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Safety and Fire Departments and for administering NASSCO's Safety Management System.

PAY SCALE

$56,100 - 72,600

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
