Summary of Position

The UNH Sustainability Institute seeks a SIMAP Program Coordinator to provide overall program support for UNH’s carbon and nitrogen footprinting tool, the Sustainability Indicators Management and Analysis Platform (SIMAP). Sustainability, which we understand to mean a collective commitment to human dignity for all people and ecological integrity for all places, is a core value at UNH. The continued development and support of SIMAP as a resource reflects the University’s sustainability learning and leadership over decades, supporting efforts by hundreds of organizations and institutions across the globe in tracking and managing their own footprints, and supporting education and training for aspiring sustainability professionals. 
This position will entail a blend of customer support and troubleshooting; administration for the platform; technical documentation, resource development and outreach; collaboration with external partners; and continued research, learning, and synthesis of best practices in the broader carbon accounting field, to be integrated into the SIMAP platform. The SIMAP Program Coordinator will design and implement day-to-day efforts to support SIMAP’s user base of hundreds of campuses and other organizations, ensure the platform stays up-to-date and robust, and support teaching and training efforts to a broad range of stakeholders.

Other minimum qualifications

  • An understanding of sustainability as embodied in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Strong command of the principles underlying carbon accounting, including with the standards and reports from the GHG Protocol
  • 1-2 years professional and/or research experience related to organizational carbon accounting, reporting and reductions
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrated quantitative analysis skills, and proficiency with MS Excel
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • A high degree of organization and attention to detail
  • Flexibility, patience, diplomacy and empathy
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, take initiative and problem-solve 
  • Enthusiasm about working collaboratively and entrepreneurially to drive organizational and societal change

Duty/Responsibility

Provide day-to-day user support for SIMAP
  • Respond to inquiries sent to the SIMAP Inbox or via voicemail within 24-48 hours.
  • Hold weekly office hours.
  • Upgrade accounts, address access issues.
  • Provide data review services for those who have purchased that fee-based service. Train/supervise/mentor SIMAP interns to assist in these efforts as needed/appropriate.
  • Work with RCC developer/s to troubleshoot bugs, entering and monitoring tickets in Bugzilla. Review individual user accounts and datasets as needed to respond to questions, as well as to identify common areas of confusion and/or user best practices

Duty/Responsibility

Manage/provide SIMAP administrative and outreach support
  • Collect and track payments, issue refunds as needed
  • Create quarterly reports for income and royalty distribution, to be shared with and processed by UNH Innovations and UNH Finance
  • Generate user renewal reminders, invoices, and other administrative materials as needed
  • Manage the SIMAP shopping cart in Nelnet, adding or modifying products and bundles as needed
  • Update the SIMAP news feed at least quarterly
  • Develop instruction and materials to support and enhance the user experience (and minimize 1:1 support required)
  • Create and send quarterly newsletters
  • Keep existing SIMAP documentation as well as user tools and “how-to’s” up-to-date and relevant (e.gg. data collection templates, user guide, EFs, other items on the Resources page)
  • Assist in development and delivery of quarterly webinars
  • Work with UNHSI communications team to develop/update marketing collateral as needed

Duty/Responsibility

Coordinate and implement annual SIMAP updates and assist in new development
  • Working with supervisor, identify annual update needs and map process and timeline for completing them
  • Complete research as needed to aggregate and/or calculate new factors
  • Provide new Emission Factor CSVs to developer
  • Test Emission Factor updates on preview site to ensure accuracy
  • Create documentation for new Emission Factors
  • Train/supervise interns as necessary to assist in Emissions Factors updates
  • Based on user input garnered through user support interactions, identify needed updates and improvements to SIMAP functionality
  • Contribute actively to the development of annual improvement plans/priorities
  • Complete research as needed to identify new methods and calculations to be added to SIMAP to support new functionality priorities
  • Work with developer/s at UNH’s Research Computing Center and the SIMAP team to coordinate implementation (i.e. integration of new research) for functionality improvements
  • Implement protocols for beta testing new functionality before it is released
  • Train/supervise interns as necessary to assist in functionality updates and testing

Duty/Responsibility

Support training and educational initiatives, as well as partnerships, designed to leverage SIMAP to spur broad climate leadership
  • Support Carbon Footprinting courses
  • Answer SIMAP questions from Climate Action Clinic clients and students
  • Help create and deliver presentations for webinars, conferences other venues as requested
  • Participate in regular calls with Second Nature to implement continued partnership goals and deliverables
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning and annual work planning
  • Represent SIMAP, and UNH in other forums (e.g., AASHE or NECSC conferences) as needed

  • Participate in regular SI staff meetings 
  • Participate in planning and coordination efforts with other staff as needed 
  • Provide timely data for UNHSI’s STARS reports and annual reports, for use in evaluating a program outcomes and supporting fundraising
