Summary of Position
Provides student financial aid information, advice, and counseling to new and continuing students, including prospective students and their families. Responsible for office administrative support such as monthly purchasing reconciliation, maintaining supply inventory and initiating office work orders. Assists in the awarding of new state grant initiatives. Provides training and guidance to student employees. Evening and weekend hours required as needed. Conducts community and campus outreach and events as needed.
Essential Responsibilities
This role requires a blend of financial expertise, administrative efficiency, and strong communication skills to effectively manage financial aid processes and support students and staff. The essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Effective Communication: Proficiency in providing clear advice and counseling to students and their families, delivering engaging presentations, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Strong Analytical Skills: The role requires a meticulous approach to reviewing student files, ensuring the accuracy of documentation and financial aid offers, and critically analyzing data to inform decision-making and reporting.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in managing financial aid documentation, auditing statements, and updating policies to ensure accuracy and adherence to regulations.
- Financial Aid Processes: Advising students and families on application procedures, eligibility requirements, and understanding their rights and responsibilities regarding financial aid. Training will be provided. Applicants are not required to have previous financial aid experience.
- Data Management and Reporting: Creating reports from software platforms, analyzing data, and updating procedures for data gathering as necessary. Auditing software functionality, and assisting with departmental policy and procedure update
- Administrative Duties: Reviews financial aid applications for accuracy making necessary corrections. Determines student financial aid eligibility and authorizes awards from federal, state, institutional, and private programs in compliance with all rules, regulations, and guidelines. Certifies student loan applications. Revises awards as individual circumstances change.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work from campus (primarily our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle numerous complex and routine tasks simultaneously while managing a high volume of phone calls, emails, and student contacts.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Commitment to equity and quality customer service.
- Associate degree from an accredited institution. A combination of education and directly related technical/professional work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Years of experience is in addition to any required years of experience for the position. Part time experience will be prorated.
- One year of customer service experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and supporting the success of individuals from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.
- One year experience in financial aid office or higher education student affairs.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Experience with online student information systems.
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
- This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
