DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Student Health & Well-Being cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.

The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego Health System plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture at UC San Diego that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments under the oversight of the Executive Director into a cohesive, multi-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Strategic Planning, Innovation, and Research (SPIR), Assessment and Analytics (SHAA), Student Health Services (SHS) and SHW Administration.

Health Promotion Services is responsible for campus-wide education, outreach and prevention efforts on a variety of health topics. SHW uses a public health model in conceptualizing the delivery of programs and services. HPS provides services related to alcohol and other drugs (AOD), physical activity, gender-affirming care, smoking cessation, sleep, stress, sexual health and mental health topics among others. HPS utilizes peer educators, marketing and a variety of campus-wide campaigns to impact the students on a population basis. Additional programs are targeted to groups of students at higher risk on selected well-being topics. Individual services are available such as health coaching, biofeedback, stress management, sexual health, and other well-being related services.

The Collegiate Recovery Coordinator contributes to student success/student well-being by planning, coordinating, and implementing high quality, recovery supportive programming for students engaged in the Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP). Programs include, but are not limited to, peer recovery support, service opportunities, sober social activities, and academic success. Through these efforts, this position will contribute to the continued development of students.

In addition to serving students in recovery, the Collegiate Recovery Coordinator will provide resources and materials to friends and family members of persons in or seeking recovery. The Recovery Coordinator will educate the campus community about recovery and be the primary point of contact for the students in the Collegiate Recovery Program community.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced health education professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of the health promotion and education field.

  • Knowledge of issues specific to young adults in recovery. Experience in a college setting. Experience with event planning, program development, coordination and evaluation.

  • Thorough knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs.

  • At least 3 years of experience in addiction and recovery support. Preferable 5 years.

  • Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.

  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse client groups. Cultural competency in working with diverse populations including excellent communication skills and advocacy skills.

  • Effective organizational skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of proper business formats, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

  • Ability to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.

  • Demonstrated experience and competency with standard business equipment, computer technologies and a variety of software including system and networking software, Microsoft Office suite, email and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of the unit and the division.

  • Complete and pass test/quiz for all required training assigned by UCOP, UCSD, HPS and SHW on a timely basis.

  • At all times, demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others. All staff members are required to uphold the UCSD Principles of Community and to promote a positive and collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all patient, student, employee and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, state and federal guidelines, including, but not limited to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

  • Ability to adhere to and practice the mandatory University Core Values & Safety Standards of performance, demonstrate at all times the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.

  • As appropriate, submit incident reports into the UCSD SHW Incident Report System, RL Datix or current system in use, to report near-misses, process problems or patient or employee injury events. Attend required trainings and refreshers for use and proper steps to follow.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree with specialty training in Addictions or equivalent training and experience.

  • Substance use related license or specialty or background with addictions and recovery. (LCSW, CADC, CSAC, Master's of Addiction, etc.).

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs such as occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation to travel to off-site meetings and events.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $67,200 - $119,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.18 - $57.28

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
