Your Role

The Data Services & Solutions, Data Governance team provide the framework, tools and oversight needed to standardize processes and procedures to govern data assets for world class data services and analytics. The Data Modeler, Consultant will report to the Sr. Manager, Data Governance. In this role you will engage in translating business concepts into conceptual, logical/canonical data models and business terms for building overall business taxonomy. This role focuses on issues such as clear and complete definition of data, it's relationships with other definitions and business rules in the form of keys and relationships, optimizing the access of data through structuring the information, work with data stewards to define business terms, and support reference data management.

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Take ownership, plan and lead subject area information modeling to support Enterprise Information Model
  • Lead facilitation sessions with business Subject Matter Experts for clarity of definitions in the business taxonomy. Provide input into Business Term definitions in partnership with data stewards and subject matter experts
  • Create and maintain Conceptual and Logical/Canonical models with attribution
  • Use models and business taxonomy to promote data literacy to benefit stakeholders across IT developers, analytics creators and business consumers
  • Support framework to promote collaboration across data modeling, business experts, data engineers and analytics developers in efficient usage of data via clarity of definitions
  • Gather business requirements and turn them into a logical data model that represents the business
  • Assist in developing and publishing data management standards, policies, and procedures, including the management and maintenance of related tools and environments with focus on data modeling and data catalog management
  • Develop, adopt and mature the data modeling and data catalog standards and guidelines aligning to industry best practices for data literacy, security and compliance

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Requires at least 8 years of prior relevant experience
  • Requires strong knowledge of data modeling principles and best practices
  • Requires a good understanding of enterprise data architecture principles
  • Must understand PII, PHI, CCPA and other data handling approaches
  • Must understand Dimensional, Data Vault, 3NF and Canonical data modeling techniques
  • Requires experience with Data Vault 2.0
  • Requires a solid understanding of Data Management and Metadata Management processes and principles, with the ability to effectively communicate and sell those ideas to others
  • Strong communication skills are required; technical and business writing skills; experience communicating with data engineers, business users and management to succinctly explain technical and functional concepts
  • Demonstrated success working in a team-based environment; strong facilitation and negotiation skills are required
  • Working knowledge of Data Operating Model practices, Data Governance and Data Compliance, including data management, business glossary/data dictionary, data lineage, metadata, and data quality initiatives
  • Requires experience with ERWIN or ER/Studio as modeling tool
  • Experience with Collibra or other enterprise data catalog tool for managing business taxonomy
  • Healthcare Industry knowledge preferred, Payor experience is highly preferred
  • Requires strong SQL skills

Pay Rate:

The pay range for this role is: $ 109120.00 to $ 163680.00 for California.

Note:

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
