Position Summary:

The Center for New Directions (CND) Coordinator will engage with students, campus partners, and community partners to cultivate student well-being, with the goal of increasing retention and completion among students enrolled or interested in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and who are in one or more of the following grant-identified special populations:

  • Individuals preparing for non-traditional fields. (Anyone who is training to work in a field traditionally held by the opposite gender.)
  • Single parents, including single pregnant women (Unemployed or underemployed people who are responsible for a dependent in the home)
  • Displaced Homemaker (Anyone who must seek training or paid employment outside of the home due to separation, divorce, death, or disability of spouse)
  • Individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including low-income youth and adults
  • Individuals with disabilities
  • Out-of-workforce individuals
  • English learners
  • Homeless individuals described in section 725 of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
  • Youth who are in, or have aged out of, the foster care system
  • Youth with a parent who is a member of the armed forces; and is on active duty

The CND Coordinator works closely with CTE faculty and staff to provide a unique level of service to students in identified populations. The coordinator should possess strong organizational skills to manage the requirements of working under multiple funding sources. The CND coordinator requires a skillset that includes the ability perform accurate data collection and analysis as well as connecting with students, promoting and recruiting for programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, plan, budget, and execute projects, programs, and events based on grant funding guidelines, program assessment data, and CWI initiatives and goals that will support and encourage the retention of identified CND student populations.
  • Responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting on CND projects, programs, and events funded under federal and state grants.
  • Write CND sections of the yearly Perkins and State of Idaho CTE grant applications and reports.
  • Identify, track, provide support services, and connect identified student populations with appropriate CWI and community resources to help them overcome personal and economic barriers to their education and employment. Support may include individual or career counseling; dependent on credentialing.
  • Provide students with academic and career exploration opportunities to assist the transition from school to the workforce.
  • Work with CWI business office staff and other CTE staff to maintain proper use and accounting of grant funds.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student employees.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise paid student mentors that will in turn support high school and CWI students interested in their current CWI program of study.
  • Maintain a Program Advisory Committee to provide advisory information, supplementary services and education, and to maintain a bridge of communication between the needs of CWI students and Treasure Valley community services organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience including two-years working directly with students or clients.
  • Ability to interpret academic and administrative policy.
  • Strong technical abilities: database systems, online learning software, presentation software, Microsoft Office suites, or equivalent. Experience with Ellucian (Datatel) Colleague ERP or other major ERP systems preferred.
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills are necessary, including public
speaking skills and the ability to represent the college in a positive way to diverse populations.
  • Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Strong event planning/coordination skills.
  • Ability to work remotely as well as travel between various locations to provide programming and services.
  • 2-3 years of experience in college/university counseling, advising, career counseling, or in goal-oriented, client-service work preferred
  • Experience working in grant-funded non-profit or program preferred
  • Experience working with identified populations preferred.
  • Experience managing budget preferred
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English)
