Working Title
Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
- Prep and clean up for all Chemistry labs
- Maintain inventory and purchase lab supplies for all Chemistry labs, managing lab budget for these areas.
- Act as a resource and support person for adjunct and full-time chemistry faculty.
- Maintain chemistry lab equipment
- Member of the college safety committee and lab safety committee. Annual review of chemical hygiene plan and lab safety manual for chemistry labs with the Chemical Hygiene Officer.
- Collaborate with other lab managers (biology/health) to maintain the division budget and have it available and up to date for the dean and program heads.
- Managing chemical and biological waste.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Provide safety guidance to SCI 299 Capstone students working in the chemistry lab.

- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field with 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry
- Knowledge of how to use all chemistry lab equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA lab protective equipment use and EPA waste disposal requirements or willingness to learn them.
- Understands the importance of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Proven ability to work as a team member, appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude and sense of humor.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the comprehensive mission of community colleges.
- Master’s degree in education or specific discipline
- Community college teaching experience.
- Familiarity with the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- Experience developing online courses in a college setting.
